New Anti-Bot System

For the past few days MasterToma has been developing a exclusive anti-bot system.
A few servers on newest chronicles have a variation of this system, but for old chronicles servers only Elmore Lab has come up with this kind of tool.

What it is:

It’s an in-game CAPTCHA verification system. This method is used to check if the player is actually looking at the screen and in control of the character.
It’s meant to prevent afk-botting.

How it Works

The user will be asked to CLICK on a specific item.
If the user interact with the system and answer it correctly, it will be concluded that the user is in control of the character.
If the user doest Interact with the system, it will be concluded that the player is afk-botting. In this case the player will be automatically kicked from the server.

Getting kicked by CAPTCHA system serves as a first and last warning. Next time CAPTCHA is not answered the user will be perma banned for afk botting.

If the user does Interact with the system and get the answer wrong....well we will conclude that the user is an idiot.

Questions:

1.What if player has a toon in town like a dwarf selling items. Will that character be asked to perform CAPTCHA?

No. CAPTCHA system appears only for in combat character and characters who are getting xp/adena (like your buffer).

2. What if the player has 2 ou more buff toons on his follow? How will he know the CAPTCHA system appeared on the other boxes?

The CAPTCHA system will only appear for characters that are using any actions or ability. If that character is only moving and doing nothing else, system automatically concludes that character is not being operated.

Implementation:
For the first weeks CAPTCHA system will be manually inforced. Reported toons or bots found by the Administration will be tested with the new system. This will serve to evaluate how effective the system is and to tune it to operate automatically in the future.

Personal side note: Thanks to user belen for showing this.

Hello,

The server is growing and solid clans are coming up. With this comes an issue that is starting to happen more and more often: account sharing problems.

Elmore Lab does not prohibit account sharing. It’s a known practice since the beginning of the game, and it cannot be stopped, but we do not encourage it either since it can bring a big problem when bad things happen.

This week we have had 3 complaints of ‘stolen accounts’ happen on the server. On one of them the e-mail account was shared by more than 2 people, which makes it impossible to know which player is the real owner.

Most of the time a high-level Warsmith character with a lot of resources is shared to craft for the entire clan. After some time one of the players that has access to the account thinks it is fair to take a little (or everything) on the side, and it gets worse and worse after that.

With that being said, Elmore Lab will not help on account recover situations if we identify that the ownership of the account is being claimed by different IPs. On account recover situations a code is sent to the e-mail of the account, if the e-mail account is shared too, the administration cannot help the user beyond that.

Take good care of your stuff and know who you are giving access to.

TL;DR
If you recklessly share your account and get scammed. Do not count os us to deal with that problem. It is your responsibility.

That is really stupid decision in my opinion. It is always been like that that good clans share buffers and dwarfs.

Email owner should be the owner of the account, doesn't matter how many IPs logged the account. And he should be able to restore account through email. That's whole solution of the problem.

If you implement this policy about 1 IP, what do you propose players to do? Everyone in clan should have 10 warsmiths and 15 spoilers? Each member has his own?

And how are you going to deal with ppl, who has different IP but it's the same person who logging in?

just implement a confirm by email code feature on password change and problem solved: only real account creator will ever be able to change the password and that's it.

This won't change the chance, anyway, that the "scammer" could just trade shits directly in game, without being in need to steal the account.

@Seven, @Zungaru Resetting password is not a problem. Event stolen password is not a problem.
Today I have case, when 3 people have access to same account and to same email. I sent security code to email. All three give me the right code.

Ok, thank you. Then what was said in the OP post is confusing.

It sounds like it's those guys problem.

The real stupid decision here is to share an account with people that you do not trust, and later come to us for help and we identify that more people has access to the account AND sometimes the e-mail.

We DO NOT prohibit account sharing, but we're not responsible to help you because you got fucked over since you couldnt carefully choose who you shared your account with.

Be thoughtful of your decisions and know who you area dealing with.

A lot of thought has been put on this matter and the administration has discussed this thoroughly.

It does not matter how well tailored security access and 2-step verification is implemented when it is the players will to share ALL infos regarding the account.

Last posts will be kept here since they are reasonable, but this topic will be locked.

Dear players, we are aware that most of our player base enjoys the old school Lineage 2 experience, so everything we do is guided by that philosophy.

We know people do not like to see players with a lot of boxes following 1 toon.

With that in mind, we are going to apply a multibox restriction by IP which will be applied in 2 phases.

PHASE 1 - 22/06/2020 after restart

1+3 box restriction

PHASE 2 - When we hit constant 300+ population

1+2 box restrictions

QUESTIONS -

1- But ROOR, we asked and you guys promised 1+2 limitations. THAT'S NOT WHAT WE WANT!!

The server WILL have the 1+2 box limit. But now is not the time.

2- But MasterToma, a 1+3 limitation DOES NOT solve players abusing boxed characters.

It doesn't solve 100% of the problem, THAT'S why we will implement the 1+2 later. But this initial restriction works more than people think.

Why?

Because there are 3 types of multiboxers on ElmoreLab.

Group 1: The most common player. 1 DD + 1 SUPPORT, or 1 DD + 2 SUPPORTS. More than 75% of the players use a 1+2 setup. We have this data because we track this information closely.

Group 1 likes the multibox limitations. Group 1 will not be put in disadvantage because of multibox limitations. Group 1 stays happy.

Group 2: The % of people who 1+4 or 1+5 is less than 5%. These are the people who AOE and even Raid alone. And we judge that to be Not Ok for the server's health.

Group 3: The rest of the % of players (roughly 20%) are the ones playing around with DD+BD+SWS+PP+SE.
Group 3 will have time to find friends to play support with them, or group 3 will have to change their play style to comply with the new rules.

3- But ROOR, why are you doing this NOW?

Because we can see 2 things: a) we see a good number of news accounts on Elmore Lab every week. We see a lot of small clans being created and raiding together. And we see that players always ask for box limitations. b) we wanted to remember the community that we care for their play time and we dont forget our promises.

4- But MasterToma, i have 1 wife, 2 girlfriends, 1 son and 2 daughters who all live with me and play Lineage 2. How can we all play together with IP limitations? What about those players who play in a Cyber Café or Lan-house??

In those cases the administration will identify personally who those players are and concede a special permission.

5- But ROOR, what don't you idiots impose a Hardware limitation instead of an IP limitations??

Because its way easier to cheat multibox limitations by having more than 1 computer.
